Team spirit and cooperation are critical at that. Around 400 engineers work on the perfect coverage of our mobile phone network and customer-oriented fixed-line solutions. More than 350 IT experts work on the most innovative products and solutions for our customers. They all share a passion for technology and a curiosity for new developments.
Our employees come from all over the world. People from almost 50 different nations work at Hutchison Drei Austria.
What are they trying to achieve? What exciting challenges are they working on?
We believe in 5G as the game-changing technology in mobile telecoms. Thus our main focus is to upgrade our network nationwide to 5G. On top, we will enhance our coverage footprint and bring broadband data even to remote rural areas in Austria. But the actual tipping point is to launch 5G on a standalone basis, thereby opening the door for a broad new ecosystem of industry and IoT solutions requiring near real-time processing, highest reliability or mass sensor communication.
On the IT side, we are on the move from old legacy technology to leading-edge architecture throughout our entire landscape. In parallel, we turn the world towards more digital and easier to use processes and solutions — company internal but particularly for our customers. We want to offer our customers not just connectivity but enable and simplify the digital life in every household with our own and partner products from a single source. A good example is our own streaming TV platform we pioneered 15 years ago and tailormade for mobile and fixed terminals. We continue to enrich and further improve it.
Agile working is not an alien concept here. We have 53 agile teams at work for us.
What technologies is the tech team using?
We work with the latest technology — for a strong, stable and reliable network and top-quality communication solutions. In the software development departments, we mainly use Java and Springboot, but also, e.g. C#, .net, Angular, Python and some others are in use.
How has Drei Österreich adapted to the challenges of the Covid pandemic?
As the pandemic started, we managed the move to mobile working literally overnight. We introduced collaboration tools, provided our employees with complete equipment and created an environment to work from home. At the same time, we paid close attention to keeping all in the loop and even found ways to stay emotionally close as a team.
We learned a lot during the last two years. We experienced that working from home could even foster efficiency. On the other side, we recognize the importance of entertaining social relations and empathy within teams.
But most importantly, we managed this pandemic together with utmost care for the health and safety of our people. We stayed close, and after these two years, we even came back stronger as a team, with all the milestones we hit and all advances we jointly made in mind.
What are the perks of working at your company?
We established a new framework for flexible hybrid working combining positive aspects. We allow our people to coordinate the majority of their work time as it best suits them but keep some days in the office to stay close and promote effective communication within teams and projects for aligning, resolving issues, brainstorming, finding solutions and celebrating achievements.
In practice, up to 60% of the working time can be remote work. As long as the pandemic situation in Vienna/Austria is tense, we still work up to 100% from home.
What are your hiring goals over the next 12 months?
We are a dynamic company on a growth path. We have challenged the market as mavericks for twenty years, now having the power even to go further. We are constantly looking for a broad range of experts and talents in nearly all tech areas, from radio frequency to core network, from front end app development to the heart of customer backend systems, from process automation to leading-edge data analytics.
In particular, we welcome the next generation of Young Professionals entering the employment market and offer a long-term perspective within our company.
Dual Student Programs are in focus as well. We are investing in junior profiles in the same way we offer detailed job profiles to experienced hires in IT & Engineering.
