We know that a particularly attractive sector for developers, driven by innovation, growth, and a huge increase in interest among the public, is FinTechs.

Therefore, we are very pleased to present today’s Company Portrait.

This week: Dr. Andreas Schranzhofer, Chief Technology Officer @ Scalable Capital— one of Europe’s leading digital investment platforms.

Let’s start! Andreas, what’s Scalable Capital's mission?

Scalable Capital brings people and technology-based investing together with the goal of democratizing financial investments, empowering everyone to become an investor. In 2014 we started to build a first-class digital investment service that is now available to everyone. Today, Scalable Capital is Europe’s largest digital asset manager with assets on its platform valued over 6 billion Euros, an online broker for independent decision-makers, and a European leader in providing B2B digital asset management platform solutions.

What’s the goal for your Tech-Team?

We are building Europe’s leading investment platform. Our Product & Engineering teams provide a platform for our clients to have a seamless user experience. Engineering technologies that can enable our clients to manage their money are inspiring and daunting. We’re tackling wealth management, brokerage, and growth challenges — all while maintaining a beautiful experience.

What technologies are you using? Tell us about the Tech-Stack!

Our tech team uses React and Typescript for the front-end on the web and native apps for iOS and Android-based on GraphQL APIs. For building mobile Apps, we use Kotlin and Swift. Aside from that, our team works with Java, GoLang, AWS, and Terraform.

How has Scalable Capital adapted to the challenges of the Covid pandemic? Did it change the way the Tech-Team is working now?

The pandemic time was challenging for us in different ways, but it wasn’t just the pandemic-related situation that presented the team with a new environment. The extremely fast growth of the team and the company in general in the past year and a half was a unique experience, and we can proudly say that the team mastered the challenge very well.

Today team members collaborate no matter where they are: the great majority of our jobs can be done remotely. Additionally, everyone gets the possibility to work 90 days a year from outside of Germany.

What are the perks of working at Scalable Capital?

Working at Scalable Capital is unique in many ways: Most of the time, you work closely with senior management, giving you access to the most varied and exciting people and work areas. An international team with various backgrounds is the prerequisite for a successful company as Scalable Capital. This is precisely why diversity and inclusion play a significant role for us — we currently employ people from over 30 different nationalities. You become a part of a network of highly talented and motivated people by joining us. We enjoy regular office parties or after-work drinks, BBQs in the summer, weekly runs, and much more.

Due to the growing size of the company and the exciting products and projects we work on, there are plenty of internal development opportunities. Internal transfers from one role or team to another are supported and welcomed by the company.

At Scalable Capital, you can expect to work with the latest hardware and support your workplace with equipment. If you want to learn or improve your German language skills, you will like the free classes in the office or our support for online classes.
